For release in april

Readability tests

Have you ever wondered how important it is to make sure people not only read your articles and newsletter, but to make sure they understand what you have written.

Besides writing in an understandable fashion a lot of factors comes in to play when we measure if a text is understandable or not.

A number of more or less scientific tests, called readability tests have been deviced to evaluate your text and give some kind of mesurement indicating what level of study the reader should have to understant it.

To read more about readability in genereal, visit the readability section of wikipeida.

Most of these tests require quite complex analysis of your written material and applying mathematical formulas to the results from your analysis to finally deduce an index. This index number can then be compared to the level of knowledge (years in school) the reader should have to ge a full understanding.

Why Should You Care About This?

There are many reasons but the most obvious is that you should keep the complexity level so low that all your subscribers or readers can understand what you write. One will of course have to measure according to the readers and their knowledge as well as the overall theme of the text.

If we write a simple salesletter for a software the reader level should be kept quite low but if what you write is quantum physics written as a publication in ascientif journal the level obviously is at a completely other level.

How To Measure with Readability Test

There are some programs on the market (most of them costing from $49 and up) created to provide the service of readability tests. One can find some web sites offering free use of scripts that will do the trick. But I think there’s a better way to do it!

Upcoming Version of Ziney Pro with Readability Testing built in!

The next version of Ziney Pro, with an estimated release in april will have readability test built in!

This will make it as easy as pressing a button when writing your article to see the readability index for your article. With this capability you can write with a specific level in mind or quickly check and rewrite old articles.

All of this without paying for yet another piece of software!

More information to come.

Kenth

Ziney Pro Goes Live 16/1!

Listbuilding

Listbuilding Utilities

Newsletter

Newsletter Utilities

Newsletter Editor?

All newsletters are not created equal. In that same vein, neither are newsletter editors. Some have apparently forgotten the ‘news’ aspect of a newsletter. Instead, they bombard their poor, unsuspecting subscribers with a non-stop barrage of sales pitches, affiliate promotions and the next big product launch.

What all good newsletter editors have in common is the fact that they use high quality tools to help them work. A newsletter editor software like Ziney Pro can make or break a publishing timeline.

As a newsletter editor, you have a responsibility to those people on your list. In many cases, your newsletter is the only contact you have with them. You owe it to your subscribers to provide them with actual news, real advice, and helpful tips they can use. When you come across something that you genuinely believe will benefit them or their business, of course it’s reasonable to expect that you would want to share it. But that needs to be the exception, not the rule.

I know, as a newsletter editor, you want your subscribers not only to read your newsletter, but to actually look forward to receiving it. And they will, if your newsletter is conversational, easy to read and you’ve shown them that not every issue is a thinly disguised sales pitch. Getting newsletter subscribers is not as easy task. Keeping them is even more difficult and that’s the true measure of how successful you are as a newsletter editor.

One of the most recommended ways of assuring that your subscribers remain on your list is to write as though you were talking directly to each individual, instead of a list of thousands. Let your personality show through and allow your words to flow across the screen just like they would if you were sitting across the table from a friend.

Another way to insure that your list stays loyal is to frequently put yourself in their place as you proofread your final draft. Do you find it interesting reading? If you do, chances are they will too. Don’t be afraid to share personal stories from time to time. It will make you seem more like a ‘real person’ to someone who’s never met you.

Writing your newsletter doesn’t have to be a dreaded chore. There are many tools available to make the job of a newsletter editor a little easier. One such tool, Ziney Pro, actually helps make the creation of your newsletter more time efficient by providing a data base of ready-made headlines and push-button formatting. Using software tools designed with newsletter editors in mind can shave hours off your preparation time.

Take your role as a newsletter editor seriously and treat your subscribers the way you would want to be treated. Your list will grow, your readers will always be eager to hear from you, and your unsubscribes will be few. As a newsletter editor, isn’t that exactly what you want?

Tags: newsletter, editor, ezine, newsletter editor, ezine editor, formatting

Newsletter Formatting

Newsletter

Newsletter Utilities
<guid

Learn how to do it, and why.

Why using a text newsletter?

Sending an email (newsletter) in text format instead of word or html format will allow everyone on the internet to read it. No special software or utility will be needed.

However, to really make it work, consider the following.

• Make sure you use a monospaced font. A font where the width of the letter i is the same as the letter w. The letters may look different in width, but if you use a monospaced (instead of proportional) font, the space each character use, will be the same. This is necessary to be able to use row length row breaks and alignment.

• As said above the monospaced font in your newsletter will allow you to format your newsletter to use for example 65 characters width. This is pretty much the standard number of characters used in a newsletter today.

• Also, remember that things like underline, bold, italic, left, center, right and justified are adjustments not allowed in pure text, as they require special formatting.

• Use white space to make reading easier. Allow for two or more empty lines between content that is different.

• Also, make sure your formatting includes some kind of planning. This will allow you to maintain a similar look for your newsletter in each issue and that makes reading easier for your subscribers.

Tools of the trade

Use things like specialized newsletter software to write and format your newsletter and newsletter templates to make creation and publishing of your newsletter easier. Make sure you use the correct tool to write and format your newsletter.

Spy on other newsletters

Subscribe to newsletters that have many subscribers. They will be of interest to you if nothing else for you to study their ways to format the content. Take notes on how they start their newsletter, table of index, menu and similar.

What type of information they include at the top and at the bottom of each issue.

This will help you decide and start formatting as well as make layout choices easier for you.

For Faster and Easier <a
